A Wild Update Appeared!

HEY EVERYBODY!

Phil here! So this blog has died for a while which is totally my fault (since I'm the only one with any access to it) but I'm booting it back up! As a professional in the comics industry it's important to maintain a web presence, and I do an overwhelmingly bad job of that. So this blog will henceforth be the official art sharing source from yours truly.

SO! ANNOUNCEMENT TIME! I've been busy this past year, but unfortunately most of the artwork I've done isn't something that I can post to this blog as of yet. That being said, here's a link to the actual project itself, which I can talk about!

http://www.comicsalliance.com/2012/11/28/viz-uglydolls-graphic-novel-line/
If you're a fan of Uglydolls, you have check this out! Also, if you're not a fan of Uglydolls, you should be! Side note- the article lists mystery artist "Phil C. Jackson" or "Jacobsen." Well, just to clarify- that's me! And it's "Jacobson," officially. So hopefully that'll clear itself up over time. So stay tuned for more Ugly Updates!

So now that that's taken care of, here's some artwork. Because I love you all, and you're all fabulous. And because I haven't posted in nearly a year and I have backlogged all of my artist's guilt about this page being so dead. ART!

Thanks for reading guys! And again, in case I haven't apolagized enough, I'm SO SORRY I let this blog die. I'm really bad at updating these things. But no more! So keep checking back- I'm sure I'll link to my Facebook where most of you will access this from. Okay, I'm out.

Hey everybody! So the quarter is drawing to a close (literally) and I've just about finished all of my work! I have my pages all inked, my papers edited, and my scans ready to be turned in. But more on that in a second. So get this- we have ONE WEEK LEFT on the Game Over anthology kickstarter, and we've already doubled our goal! However, if you still want a copy of the anthology, go ahead and throw a pledge up there- I promise it'll be worth it! Here's a link in case you missed it:

Pancakes & Yetis

What's this? Another update! Okay, so it hasn't been AS long this time, but I figured I'd throw some stuff up here just to give y'all a taste of what I'm doing this quarter. So here's the first two pages of Pancakes for Yeti, the mini-series, as well as a four panel strip for Fisher's class. So check back in soon- I'll have pages 3-8 up in a few weeks, as well as a 6 page short story about dancing Norse gods.

Be careful with those directions...

So that's it for now. Hope you guys enjoy!

Commissions and Sketches

Hey all! I've been relatively busy as of late, just sketching around and doing a few commissions. Recently I've been drawing a few of my friends in a Scott Pilgrim style as you might have noticed, so I thought I'd upload them all at once just to give you a gander at what they look like!

My awesome friend Jaime
My girlfriend Dawn

Love him or hate him, Bryan Lee O'Malley has an awesomely vivid imagination and a great series to match it. If you haven't read Scott Pilgrim, please do yourself the favor of a lifetime and check it out. If you love video games and romantic drama mixed with butt-kicking, it's the series for you.

My crazy friend Hope
Jaime's boyfriend Andrew

So as you can see, I've been pretty busy with these. I've posted them in the order I drew them just because I feel that even in that short amount of time I've gotten a lot better at it. That isn't to pat myself on the back- more just for my personal satisfaction. I enjoyed doing all of them, but it took me a while to get the style down for sure. So that's about it for the Scott Pilgrim drawings. I thought I'd upload a few sketches I've been doing recently too, just to get em out of my scraps folder.

"Mexican Stand-Off
"Unusual Instrument and SFX"
Random Junk

So the top two were done for my friend Tait's sketch blog, which can be found here: DRAWSOME. Go check it out some time- Tait uploads a new sketch topic every day, and anyone is free to submit their doodles and what have you. It's pretty great. To the left here is a sketch dump I did a while back. I should really make a new one because I have a ton of stuff in my sketchbook that I need to import. Alas, scanning at my Dad's house is relatively hard and inconvenient, so I only do it if I have to. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this week's drawings. Have a merry Christmas, everyone!

Oh, WoW!

So I spent most of the day doodling and so fourth, and I decided to color a little sketch I did about a week ago just for practice. My coloring needs a lot of work so any time I spend on it just puts me that much closer to being a pro. The sketch (below) is of Aillith and Rio, two World of Warcraft characters belonging to my girlfriend Dawn and I, respectively. She's a warlock, I'm a hunter, we kill things, etc etc etc. So yeah, I hope you like the drawing! Be sure to leave a comment and tell me what you think about the coloring! I spent about 3 hours on it total.

I'm a nerd, and I really don't care.
Here are a few screen caps of the actual characters, just so you can see what they look like in comparison. It's always interesting to work from reference, and it was definitely a real challenge to turn the complex character models into cartoons. Note- Dawn's wardrobe changed since I drew the image, so ignore the costume discrepancies.

Aillith - Lv 73 Warlock

Drawings for Friends!

Hey guys! Here's a few things from the past few weeks- some doodles, commissions, and a few sketch dumps. I've found that I really love drawing in crappy erasable pens- you know, the ones that everybody had in like, 6th grade. So here be the arts! Yarr?

+6 to Hufflepuff
This is a commission I just did of my friend Hope in a Scott Pilgrimy style. She gave me some specs and I drew it up! I've actually been doing a lot of these recently for my girlfriend and my awesome friend Jaime.

Down below and to the left you'll see a drawing I did for the back cover of my art portfolio that I made in Fish's class. It's me and Dawn on a bench. Also in Scott Pilgrim style, mainly paying a lil tribute to the fact that we both got so obsessed with the series two summers ago when the movie came out. Mainly the soundtrack. Okay, mainly Invaders Must Die by Prodigy. Now that's gonna be stuck in my head all day. Continuing down to the right is a drawing I did for Dawn based on her new found addiction to Minecraft. She's just never going to stop playing, ever, I fear. And if she could stab a creeper I'm sure she would. So thats about it for today. I might upload some more stuff later- just sketches and so fourth. Stay tuned later in the week when I go to the zoo! I love doing life drawings of animals and I'm itching to try out those pens I bought. Santa Barbara has a pretty awesome zoo, so I hope I can do some pretty awesome drawings in turn. Thanks for reading guys! Have a great day.

Bring the (White) Noise

Just thought I'd upload a few more things tonight before I head to sleep. I got some character designs for two guys that I've written a 75 page script for- hopefully going to start penciling that comic soon for whatever class I can find an excuse to use it in. It's about two white rappers named Nick and Scott. They're pretty fantastic.

Basically, the apocalypse happens, and it's up to the members of White Noise: the world's foremost white rap group, to stop it. At the helm of the apocalypse is a devious guitarist named Thord, who uses peculiar sound waves to transform people into ruthless flesh-eating, Muse-listening rock zombies. Can he be stopped? Yes. Yes he can be. But not by you. No, by white rappers. That's right.

Their designs were more or less inspired by Nat Motte and Sean Foreman from 3oh!3. Their music was also a huge drive for me to create the storyline, etc. So expect a lot of wacky antics and crazy nonsensical hyginks to ensue. 'cause that's how it rolls in the White Noise Crew.
